{"id":30,"date":"2013-06-03T15:26:07","date_gmt":"2013-06-03T15:26:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/carpecollege.com\/?page_id=30"},"modified":"2014-12-20T10:57:40","modified_gmt":"2014-12-20T15:57:40","slug":"about-the-book","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/carpecollege.com\/?page_id=30","title":{"rendered":"About the book"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" style=\"padding-right: 12px;\" src=\"\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/yZrFGUTU3dU?rel=0\" width=\"420\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" align=\"left\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<h2>So, what the heck is <i>Carpe College!<\/i>?<\/h2>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/carpecollege.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/06\/carpe-college1.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-307 alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/carpecollege.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/06\/carpe-college1-202x300.png\" alt=\"Carpe College!\" width=\"202\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/carpecollege.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/06\/carpe-college1-202x300.png 202w, https:\/\/carpecollege.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/06\/carpe-college1.png 304w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 202px) 100vw, 202px\" \/><\/a>Well, it\u2019s certainly not a perfect Latin translation because that would mean \u2018Seize the College!\u2019\u00a0 And inciting riots won\u2019t get any of us anywhere, so let\u2019s simply settle on a fast and loose translation:\u00a0 \u2018Seize the college experience (in its entirety)\u2019.<\/p>\n<p><i>Carpe College!<\/i> is an idea.\u00a0 An approach.\u00a0 An M.O.\u00a0 A habit.\u00a0 A way of embracing everything college life throws your way \u2013 academics and the rest \u2013 and doing so with vigor.\u00a0 Or, as President Kennedy would have said, \u201cwith VIGAH!\u201d\u00a0 It\u2019s also an exploration, a continual experiment, a series of tests and trials and the dipping of many toes into many different waters in an attempt to uncover who you are and how you fit\u2026 with others\u2026 with the world at large\u2026 with your own notion of who you\u2019d like to become.<\/p>\n<h2>This is <i>Carpe College!<\/i><\/h2>\n<p>It\u2019s being liberated and taking risks.\u00a0 It\u2019s being smart about managing those risks, not cowering before them, but recognizing that all the best learning comes from risk-taking and results.\u00a0 Risk-taking and results.\u00a0 Rinse.\u00a0 Repeat.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s about reinventing yourself and finding yourself, knowing that you\u2019re still emerging and growing all along.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/carpecollege.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/06\/plan.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-372 alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/carpecollege.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/06\/plan.png\" alt=\"plan\" width=\"600\" height=\"382\" srcset=\"https:\/\/carpecollege.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/06\/plan.png 600w, https:\/\/carpecollege.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/06\/plan-300x191.png 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>It encompasses both the LEARNING and the LIVING parts of college, never easy to separate, but we\u2019ll do so for our purposes.\u00a0 We\u2019ll explore strategies and stories that encourage you to actively and intentionally seek success in all facets of the experience.\u00a0 We\u2019ll toss out some ideas that you can try in your first semester, or blow off until second semester, or revisit after your first year (if you come crawling back with your tail between your legs because you didn\u2019t listen the first time).\u00a0 And we\u2019ll predicate all of it around our mantra:<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong><i>\u2018Know Thyself. Have a Plan.<br \/>\nAssume No One Else Cares.\u2019<\/i><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Whether it\u2019s your academic life or your life outside the classroom, this mantra will serve as a friendly reminder and useful guide.<\/p>\n<p>In the end, the ultimate goal of <i>Carpe College!<\/i> is to help you make the most of your college experience.\u00a0 Your college years will fly by as quickly as high school did, and you\u2019ll want to embrace every rich bit of it.\u00a0 The end result, we hope, is that you can experience what Joseph Campbell called \u2018Finding Your Bliss.\u2019\u00a0 By actively and intentionally embracing the college experience, taking some risks, getting out of your comfort zone and trying lots of stuff, we hope you can find what makes you happy.<\/p>\n<p>In fact, that\u2019s what <i>Carpe College! <\/i>is all about.\u00a0 Beginning the next phase of your life \u2013 the college phase \u2013 actively and intentionally seizing every moment and every opportunity in order to find, and ultimately follow, your bliss.<\/p>\n<p>Publisher: \u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/woodsmanpress.com\" target=\"_blank\">Woodsman Press<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>So, what the heck is Carpe College!?
